Former ORSWCD Supervisors Endorse Thure Caire

Tallahassee, Fl - Five Former Supervisors of the Ochlockonee River Soil and Water Conservation District (ORSWCD) have endorsed Thure Caire's Candidacy for the ORSWCD Group III. Herman Holly, Michael Miller, Kim O'Connor, Preston Robertson and Jorge Southworth have all submitted letters of endorsement to Thure Caire's campaign. Thure Caire was appointed to fill a vacant position on the ORSWCD in February and is now seeking to be retained by election on November 7, 2006.

Before being appointed to the district, Thure worked as Outreach Coordinator for the Think About Personal Pollution Campaign (TAPP), a program that was administered by the District. As the TAPP Outreach Coordinator, Thure completed his work ahead of schedule, under budget while exceeding the maximum predicted level of achievement.

"I have been personally impressed with Thure's commitment to outreach in the community through his position in planning, developing and implementing Rain Garden projects," O'Connor said in her endorsement letter.

Thure's experience in the field of ecology and his dedication to good stewardship and environmental sciences were also traits mentioned by the former supervisors in their endorsements of Caire.

"I've had the opportunity to work with a number of well-qualified board members," Michael Miller said. "However, Thure's experience, training and background greatly exceed that of anyone I know who has served on the board and uniquely qualify him for the position."

Jorge Southworth wrote, "Thure has a strong background in water management issues having worked for federal and local governments as well as for the private sector on soil and water management issues."

Preston Robertson wrote, "Mr. Caire is a dedicated conservationist and community activist who clearly sees the need for better stewardship for the lands and waters in Leon County."

The former supervisors agree that Thure Caire is overwhelmingly the best choice represent Leon County on the ORSWCD. "The Ochlockonee River Soil and Water Conservation District would be fortunate to gain Thure Caire as a member. His experience and enthusiasm would help The Board deal with important tasks," wrote Herman Holly.

Thure Caire was raised in Leon County and is the incumbent for ORSWCD Group III. Thure has more than six years of Water Quality experience, including work with a private water quality lab, the United State Geological Survey (USGS), the City of Tallahassee and independent research. Thure has an honors degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
