The first community group to evaluate both candidates for Ochlockonee River Soil and Water Conservation District (ORSWCD) group III, endorsed Thure Caire as their candidate in the November 7th election. In a letter to Thure Caire, Gary Lloyd, The Big Bend Sierra Club (BBSC) Political Committee Chair, wrote "The Sierra Club is very pleased to endorse you as a candidate... You closely meet the club's mission statement which includes many areas..." The BBSC evaluated candidate background, experience and conducted interviews before deciding which candidate to endorse.

"I appreciate the attention the Big Bend Sierra Club gave to this race. I can only hope Leon County voters will be as diligent when they decide who deserves their support," said Thure Caire, who is the incumbent.

The Ochlockonee River Soil and Water Conservation District is a five member board that serves all of Leon County.
